The Euromaidan protests
The untold story why the protests started. |
A witness saw the arrestation of the old man, he directly filmed it with his Iphone and posted on Twitter. His hashtag #GiveBackOurGoates, #FuckYanukovic and #SiegHeil became huge trends on Twitter. Because of the police brutality many people came protesting on the Independence Square and long but surely the area was full of more than thousands protesters who wanted their goats back, less corruption and the right to express theirselves freely.
The Pro-Russian president Yanukovic pretended it wasn't a big deal and continued with his deal to sell more goats to Russia in exchange for cheap gas. The Ukrainian population was furious about the president his decision.
The protests weren't even weeks old and several foreign institutions started to mingle in the Ukrainian Crisis. Now you need to understand that you can sort Ukraine into 2 different parts. The Eastern part where most of it's Russian speaking population lives and the Western part where the Ukrainian population lives. The European Liberals showed their support for the Ukrainian supporters. Even Guy Verhofstadt went to Kiev to show his support for the Euromaidan protesters.

The reason why the European Union supports the anti-Russian protests is because Ukraine has one of the best economies is the world, infact The Ukrainian economy is very good and would be a huge asset to the EU if Ukraine were to join. No one wants to migrate out of the Ukraine thanks to its amazing economy, and by joining the EU the Ukraine could potentially divert the large amounts of Eastern European migrants to the Ukraine instead of France and Britain. This would benefit everybody.

The Eastern Part that is populated with mostly Russian speaking people is being supported by Russia in form of weaponry and supplies.
Yanukovic
President Yanukovic brutally upressed the Ukrainian protesters which caused even bigger protests. And like every major event, people needed to die. During clashes between the police and the protesters more than 100 people found the death while president Yanikovic fled to Russia and was replaced by an anti fascist pro-liberal interim government.
